3rd Annual San Joaquin Entrepreneur Challenge
Two winning entrepreneurs will take home a share of $20,000. A total of at least $10,000 in cash and $10,000 in professional services will be awarded when the San Joaquin Angels investment group, in collaboration with regional educational institutions and economic development organizations from San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Merced counties, stage the third annual San Joaquin Entrepreneur Challenge.

“A Celebration of Fiber Arts”
March 20 to April 25, 2012

Country Crossroads Quilters and Central California Art Association present "A Celebration of Fiber Arts Exhibit" from March 20 to April 25 at the Mistlin Gallery. The CCQ members will exhibit a series of photo-realistic quilts depicting selected doorways of residences and landmarks in the Graceada Park and College Area of Modesto. The reception is Third Thursday Art Walk is April 19 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mistlin Gallery, 1015 J Street, Modesto, 529-3369. Mistlin Gallery opens Tuesday – Friday 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Country Crossroad Quilters originated in 1983 and meets twice a month to hear guest speakers, view quilts and learn quiltmaking techniques. Their goal is to educate the public about the history of quilting as an indigenous American form of expression. CCQ has produced over 100 quilts each year for donation to local charitable organizations. Some of the artists represented in the 2012 show at Mistlin Gallery are Sue Siefkin, Teresa Seifert and Joyce Compton.

SAWYER BROWN IN TOWN FOR THE 2012 FAIR
The “Travelin’ Band” Sawyer Brown is making their way to this year’s Stanislaus County Fair.

The country band, Sawyer Brown, will perform Friday, July 13, 2012, at the Stanislaus County Fair. The band will be performing on the Budweiser Variety Free Stage at 8:30 p.m. The concert will be hosted by KAT Country 103 and is free with the price of Fair admission.
“Country fans won’t want to miss out on this show,” said Adrenna Alkhas, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “Sawyer Brown will bring that old country soul to the opening night of the fair.”
Formed in 1981, this band has lasted over three decades, making this year their 30th anniversary. Sawyer Brown still continues to make great country music and has recorded 23 albums. Sawyer Brown may be known best for their hits such as, “The Walk,” “The Dirt Road,” and “Drive Me Wild,” but it’s their newest release “Travelin’ Band,” from their new CD that has them most excited. The band’s new CD begins with a song about not giving up titled, “Aint Goin’ Out That Way.” Sawyer Brown prides themselves on being a band about their fans which local fans can experience this July.
The 2012 Stanislaus County Fair opens Friday, July 13 for a 10-day run. Fair guests can count on an award-winning experience that has been over 100 years in the making. The 2012 Fair will feature the highly-popular Rainforest Adventure, sponsored by Sky Trek Aviation. Also planned for 2012 are nine nights of metal-mashing motorsports plus one night of rodeo in the FoodMaxx Arena, a total of four stages of live entertainment, upwards of 30,000 local exhibits and over 1,750 animals.
